A picture car waiting under a film studio spotlight

Your car. Their scene. Your decision.

Rent your car to film productions

You can rent your car to film productions in the UK by listing it with a picture-car service that matches it to briefs. CarSeen holds your details privately and contacts you when a scene fits, and nothing is booked without your agreement.

Productions look for cars that start, arrive when promised and look like the year they are supposed to be. A modest saloon can be more useful than a famous sports car. The longer owner guide is renting your classic car to film productions.

If you are hiring a car rather than listing one, send a brief or browse picture cars.

What's useful on screen

Almost anything can be the right car for the right story. Period dramas need everyday cars as much as glamorous ones. Commercials often want a particular colour. Music videos tend to want personality. Original, unmodified cars are often more useful than a perfect restoration, because the photographs have to match what arrives.

See cars wanted for filming, classic cars, 1960s cars and 1990s cars for the kinds of vehicles productions browse. Those pages are the public catalogue. Your registration and contact details are not part of it.

How it works

  1. List your car. Make, model, year, colour, where it lives, and clear photographs. Plates can be covered.
  2. We hold the details privately. Nothing personal is published. There is no fee to be listed.
  3. A brief comes in. When a production needs a car like yours, we send the dates, the location and how the car would be used.
  4. You decide. Nothing is booked without your agreement. You can turn a job down.

The shoot-day detail, including what to agree before you say yes, is in the owner guide. Preparing the car is covered in preparing your car for a film shoot.

UK coverage, insurance, drivers and plates

CarSeen is based in London and works with owners across the UK. Tell us where the car lives. When a job is outside that area, the travel is part of what you agree before you accept.

The production normally arranges picture-vehicle insurance naming the owner. Your own policy may not cover hire for filming, so check with your insurer. Who drives, whether the car stays parked, and whether it moves on a trailer are agreed in advance. Published photographs have plates covered, and on a public road the car keeps its own legal plates unless a change has been agreed for the camera. Read picture car insurance explained.

FAQ

Can I rent my car to a film production?

Yes. Productions hire cars from private owners for film, TV, commercials, music videos and photoshoots. Listing with CarSeen puts the car in front of briefs that match it.

Does my car have to be a classic?

No. Period dramas need everyday cars from their era, and present-day scenes need ordinary modern cars, vans and taxis as well as classics. If it can appear on camera, it is worth listing.

Do I have to let someone else drive it?

Not necessarily. Many owners drive their own cars on set, and many shots need the car parked or moved on a trailer. Who drives is agreed before anything is booked.

Who insures the car?

Productions normally arrange picture-vehicle insurance while the car is in their care, usually naming the owner. Your own motor policy may not cover this use, so speak to your insurer as well. Exact cover is confirmed before the call time.

Will my registration or address be published?

No. Listings show the general area only. Plates are covered in published photographs, and your name, address and registration are never shown publicly.

How do I list my car?

Use the list your car form. Send clear, recent photographs, the year, make and model, and the area the car is based in. There is no fee to be listed. We get in touch when a brief matches.
